Through a $361k grant from the Clean Water Land & Legacy Amendment and support from the Clear Lake Property Owners Association, an Iron Enhanced Sand Filter (IESF) is being implemented near the Clear Lake North V-Notch Weir project. The IESF will sequester excess soluble phosphorous(P) before water from the north wetlands enter Clear Lake. An IESF works by binding the soluble P to the iron and filtering out particulate P. Doing this will improve Clear Lake’s algal blooms and water quality, and by extension the rest of the CRWD lakes that it flows into. Hydrologic modeling is underway to get this project installed.
