Segner Pond is a constructed basin used to store water coming from the upstream lakes (Henshaw, Albion, and Swartout) for treatment through a limestone filter berm. The phosphorus-laden water passes through the limestone berm, where the phosphorus binds to the limestone and stays, while the water continues to Cedar Lake. The basin also gives sediments suspended in the water column the need time to settle out to the bottom of the pond instead of settling out in the lake. Both actions result in cleaner water entering Cedar Lake - in turn helping Cedar Lake's water quality.
